As we mentioned in our previous blog post it can be very difficult to stick to a diet once it is started and we recommended a few pointers here. However, once we take the first step what is the next step to be successful at the Paleo, AIP, SCD, or Keto diet? Let’s review over them piece by piece:
Keto or Paleo Diet:
The Keto and Paleo Diet share several similarities and the fact’s we’ll discuss are some of them. Dr. Dominic D’Agostino indicated that a minimum of six-weeks before our bodies will pretty much adopt the Keto diet. At this point, we will start to receive the maximum benefit of fat and keto adaptation. This is about the same for the paleo diet. After we allow our bodies to live without the high carb and sugar intake our bodies adjust and begin to metabolize better and perform better in general.
SCD or AIP Diet:
The SCD or AIP diets are different in some aspects. Though it will probably still take about 6 weeks to adjust to either diet, new foods must very slowly be introduced. The SCD and AIP Diet should be adopted to help remedy an autoimmune or similar disease. If we revert back to harmful foods or too quickly to other healthy foods then we can experience flares and extreme discomfort. Many have had great success adopting the SCD and AIP Diets but in order to see that success we must stay in it for the long hall.
Unfortunately, many people will throw in the towel after about three weeks with any of the diets (SCD, AIP, Paleo, or Keto) just when the brain and body have started to adjust. At three weeks the body has started to learn where to pull energy and muscles finally settle into efficient fat burning. We must grit our teeth and push through until the six week mark and it will get easier. Each of these diets will shred the pounds but have a goal in mind…are we doing it to lose weight, be healthier, or help remedy a disease. Having a good goal and focus will help. We can also eat more fat to ensure we have ample energy in the bloodstream while we fight to the top.
